Allantoin

A natural compound found in many plants including Comfrey, which has been used for centuries to calm irritated skin and stimulate wound healing. The form we use is nature-identical obtained through synthesis. Vegan, Palm-free.

Aloe barbadensis miller/Aloe vera (organic)

100% pure Aloe powder, incredibly concentrated with 1g of powder equivalent to 200g of fresh Aloe juice. Well known for moisturising, soothing and skin healing properties. Vegan, Palm-free.

Alpha-Bisabolol

Extracted from the essential oil of Candeia wood (Eremanthus erythropappus). It has effective anti-inflammatory properties, calming irritated and sensitive skin. Vegan, Palm-free.

Anthemis nobilis/Chamomile (Roman) essential oil (organic)

Made by steam distilling the white daisy-like flowers of this low-growing perennial plant. The aroma is sweetly floral and often described as smelling of apples and straw. Chamomile has long been used as a soothing, relaxing and calming herb, reducing stress and anxiety. Vegan, Palm-free.

Aqua

Pure water. We used an ultra-distilled water to provide hydration to the skin and to dissolve water-soluble active ingredients in a formula.

Argania spinosa/Argan oil (organic)

Native to Morocco and parts of southern Algeria this oil is produced by grinding and pressing Argan nut kernels and is known as ‘liquid gold’. Contains a rich balance of fatty acids and has been used for centuries as a deeply nourishing skin and hair conditioner. Vegan, Palm-free.

Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate

An oil-soluble derivative of Vitamin C. It penetrates the lipid layer of the skin, enhancing its ability to support collagen production and act as an antioxidant to protect skin cells from damage. It’s very stable, stays active for longer, and is less likely to cause irritation than many other forms of Vitamin C. Vegan, Palm-free.

Avena sativa/Colloidal Oats (organic)

Rich in Vitamin E, minerals, lipids and beta glucans, oats have been used for centuries to soothe dry, inflamed and irritated skin. It also helps to lock in moisture, supporting skin hydration and protecting the skin from irritants. Vegan, Palm free.

Backhousia citriodora/Lemon myrtle cellular extract

Sourced from the hinterland of Byron Bay, this Australian native has a potently fresh lemon aroma and is a powerhouse of antioxidant and antiseptic bioactive compounds. Used medicinally by indigenous Australians for the past 40,000 years to treat many ailments, including wounds and damaged skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Bakuchiol

A naturally-derived ingredient extracted from the Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) plant. Used to reduce skin discolouration caused by sun exposure and to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Effects are likened to retinol but without the side effects of redness and irritation. Vegan, Palm-free.

Benzyl alcohol

Naturally present in some plants, fruits, wines, essential oils and tea, Benzyl alcohol is used in tandem with Dehydroacetic acid as a preservative, protecting skincare and cosmetics from microbial growth. Both are laboratory synthesised and are approved for use in organic and natural skincare by international certification bodies COSMOS and EcoCert. Vegan, Palm-free.

Betaine

Betaine is a natural substance present in spinach, wheat bran, sugar beets and it also found naturally in the human body. It is a humectant, meaning it attracts water and helps to balance hydration levels in the skin, as well as help keep the skin’s natural barrier functioning well. Vegan, Palm-free.

Boswellia carterii/Frankincense essential oil (organic)

Obtained by steam distillation of the resin extruded from Boswellia trees which grow in mountainous areas in India, Africa and the Middle East. Frankincense (also known as Olibanum) has been used for thousands of years as a skin healer. Vegan, Palm free.

Butyrospermum parkii/Shea butter (organic)

Also called Vitellaria paradoxa, this is a soft, creamy butter with a slightly nutty aroma, naturally extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree native to central Africa. Shea contains an intensely nourishing profile of fatty acids and phytonutrients. The organic Shea we use comes from northern Ghana and is Fair Trade, providing a living for local women in co-operative groups. Vegan, Palm free.

Calendula officinalis/Calendula infused oil (organic)

Bright orange calendula flowers are infused in organic Sunflower (Helianthus annuus) oil, imparting the oil soluble components of the Calendula into the Sunflower oil. Calendula has been used for centuries to calm irritated skin. It is gentle, soothing and well tolerated. This infusion also contains Rosemary oleoresin to protect the oil from oxidation. Vegan, Palm-free.

Camellia oleifera/Camellia seed oil (organic)

Obtained by cold pressing Camellia seeds, this oil is high in nourishing oleic acid, Vitamins A and E, B group Vitamins, and squalene – all of which nourish the skin and help slow the skin ageing process. It absorbs exceptionally well and is suitable for all skin types. Vegan, Palm-free.

Camellia sinensis/Green tea cellular extract

Extracted from the leaves of the tea bush, Green tea is rich in bioactive compounds that have been shown to help improve microcirculation, inhibit enzymes that break down components that keep the skin supple, and help protect the skin against sun damage. This extract also contains Glycerine, Water, and Sodium benzoate, Citric acid and Potassium sorbate (to prevent microbial spoilage). Vegan, Palm free.

Cananga odorata/Ylang ylang essential oil (organic)

Originating in the Philippines, this tropical tree can grow up to 12m high, and the scent from its highly fragrant greenish-yellow flowers is one of the most widely used scents in the perfume industry. This sweet, exotic oil is made by the steam distillation of the Ylang ylang flowers. Vegan, Palm free.

Caprylic/Capric triglycerides (organic)

Also called Fractionated Coconut, this clear or pale-yellow liquid comprises mostly medium-chain triglycerides from organic Coconut oil. It is very stable, non-greasy, lightweight, and beautifully nourishing to moisturise and soften skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Caprylyl/Capryl glucoside 

A natural solubiliser naturally derived from Coconut fatty alcohols and glucose from Corn. As a solubiliser it allows small amounts of oils (such as essential oils) to be incorporated into water-based formulae. Vegan, Palm free.

Ceramide complex

Ceramides are lipids produced naturally by the skin’s sebaceous glands to keep the skin moisturised, enhance the skin’s natural barrier, and to protect it from environmental stressors. This complex contains three different types of Ceramides, Phytosphingosine (a type of lipid that occurs naturally in skin cells and supports moisture levels and the skin barrier function), Cholesterol (a plant-derived semi-synthetic cholesterol which is vegan), and Sodium lauroyl lactylate, Carbomer and Xanthan (which thicken the gel). Vegan, Palm-free.

Cetearyl olivate

A biodegradable emulsifier derived from the fatty acids in Olive oil and Cetearyl alcohol. Used in conjunction with Sorbitan olivate (also from Olive) it forms liquid crystal structures that are similar to the lipid structures in the skin, meaning it also moisturises, soothes and supports the skin barrier. Vegan, RSPO certified sustainable Palm.

Cetyl alcohol

An organic compound used to thicken and stabilise emulsions. It also has emollient (moisturising) properties which support the skin’s natural barrier. Vegan, RSPO certified Palm. 

Citric acid

A colourless, weak organic acid. It is used to lower the pH of skincare products to keep the products within the natural pH range of the skin and also to lower the pH to levels at which specific ingredients are most active. Vegan, Palm-free.

Citrus aurantium amara/Neroli essential oil

Made from the steam distillation of the blossoms of the Bitter Orange tree. A very expensive oil, it has a sweet, green spicy aroma. Used a lot in perfumery, it is known as anti-inflammatory and is often used to calm redness and skin irritation. Vegan, Palm free.

Citrus aurantium spp. bergamia/Bergamot (FCF) essential oil

Cold pressed from the peel of a citrus fruit, this fresh, light and fragrant oil lends its aroma to Earl Grey tea. FCF stands for Furocoumarin-free, meaning the phototoxic elements in raw Bergamot oil (which increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun) have been removed. Vegan, Palm free.

Citrus limomum/Lemon essential oil (organic)

Made by steam distillation of the peel of the lemon fruit, this oil has a clean, sweet, citrus aroma. Lemon is known in skincare as having stimulating, cleansing and possibly astringent action on the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Citrus paradisi/Grapefruit essential oil (organic)

Made by the steam distillation of Grapefruit peel, this oil has a fresh, slightly bitter citrus aroma. Known as a decongesting and antimicrobial oil, it is high in the chemical constituent d-limonene which has potent cleansing properties and can help dissolve excess oils. Vegan, Palm free.

Citrus sinensis/Orange essential oil (organic)

Originating in southeast Asia, sweet Orange oil is made by cold pressing the peel of the orange fruit. Antioxidant and antibacterial, orange is often used to decongest the skin and help promote collagen synthesis. Vegan, Palm free.

Citrus sinensis/Orange peel powder (organic)

Made from the dried and crushed peel of the Orange fruit, this fine powder forms a gentle, antioxidant-rich exfoliant, able to remove dead skin cells and unclog pores without damaging the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Cocamidopropyl betaine

A cleansing surfactant which helps lift away dirt and excess oils. It’s gentler and less drying than many other common surfactants – in fact it formed the basis of the original ‘no more tears’ shampoo for babies. We use a version derived from Coconut oil. Vegan, Palm free.

Coco caprylate

Derived from Coconut oil, Coco caprylate is moisturising, smoothing and softening to the skin. It leaves a silky, non-greasy feeling and enhances the ‘glide’ of other oils. Vegan, RSPO certified Palm. 

Coco glucoside

A sulphate-free, mild surfactant derived from Coconut oil and Corn sugars. Provides good cleansing action without being harsh on the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Coffea arabica/Green coffee bean cellular extract

Extracted from premium quality beans organically grown in Papua New Guinea and Australia. Its intense antioxidant action is thought to come from a synergistic reaction between Chlorogenic acid, Caffeine and Trigonelline. It has also been shown to inhibit the breakdown of collagen and support skin cellular regeneration. This extract also contains Glycerine, Water, and Sodium benzoate, Citric acid and Potassium sorbate (to prevent microbial spoilage). Vegan, Palm free.

Cucumis sativus/Cucumber cellular extract

Containing the water-soluble hydrating, cooling and calming components of Cucumber, including amino acids, tryptophan, phenolics and flavonoid glycosides. This extract also contains Glycerine, Water, Sodium benzoate, Citric acid and Potassium sorbate (to prevent microbial spoilage). Vegan, Palm free.

Cucumis sativus/Cucumber water

Also known as Cucumber hydrosol or floral water, this is made by the distillation of Cucumber fruit. It is known for having cooling, soothing and calming effects on skin. The water we use also contains Grapefruit seed extract (to prevent microbial spoilage). Vegan, Palm free.

Cymbopogon flexuosus/Lemongrass (organic)

Made by steam distillation of the leaves, Lemongrass has a potent and sharp lemon aroma, and is known as a purifying and decongesting oil for the skin. The variety we use (East Indian Lemongrass, also known as Malabar or Cochin grass) is native to India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Thailand. Vegan, Palm free.

Daucus carota/Carrot oil (organic)

This bright orange oil is obtained by cold pressing carrot roots. Rich in Vitamins A and E, beta carotene and carotenoids. Carotenoids have been shown to enhance the skin’s ability to protect itself from damage caused by UVR rays, and beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant which helps protect against free radical damage. Vegan, Palm-free.

Dehydroacetic acid

A synthesised organic compound with antibacterial and antifungal properties. It is used in combination with Benzyl alcohol as a preservative approved by COSMOS and EcoCert for use in natural skincare and cosmetics. Vegan, Palm free.

D-Panthenol

Also known as Provitamin B5, D-Panthenol is a humectant, meaning it helps tissues to retain water and stay hydrated. Panthenol is converted into Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) once it has been absorbed into the skin, where it helps to moisturise and soften. Vegan, Palm free.

Glyceryl oleate

Naturally derived from oils and fats, this is a lipid ingredient that helps put oils back into the skin after surfactant cleansing. It also supports cleansing and foaming and the stability of emulsions. Vegan.

Guar gum/Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (organic)

A natural fibre made from the endosperm of the Guar or Cluster bean. Guar gum is used to thicken and help stabilise gels and creams. Vegan, Palm free.

Hamamelis virginiana/Witch hazel (organic)

An unusual plant in that it flowers with its bright yellow blooms in late Autumn/winter and is pollinated by moths. Made from the distillation of the dried leaves, bark and partially dormant twigs, Witch hazel has long been used as an astringent to cleanse and tone, remove excess oils and tighten pores. Our extract also contains Water and Alcohol. Vegan, Palm free.

Hibiscus sabdariffa/Hibiscus oil (organic)

Made from cold pressing the seeds, Hibiscus oil is rich in moisturising fatty acids, flavonoids, carotenoids and tannins which result in an antioxidant and mildly astringent oil which is quickly absorbed. Vegan, Palm free.

Hippophae rhamnoides/Sea buckthorn oil (organic)

Said to be named after the shiny coats and vitality of horses (‘hippo’ in Greek) who fed on the berries, Sea buckthorn is a bright orange oil extremely high in natural phytonutrients including Vitamin A and other carotenes, B group vitamins, Vitamin E, flavonoids and fatty acids – many of which are used for skin cell metabolism. Vegan, Palm free.

Hydrolysed wheat amino acids

Generally derived from wheatgerm, it contains free amino acids (molecules the body uses to make proteins) which are moisturising and help maintain skin resilience. Vegan, Palm free.

Iris Florentina/Iris Florentina cellular extract

Extracted from the roots of the Iris, this extract contains isoflavones which in skincare are used to reduce signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines and damaged skin, and to keep the skin moisturised. Iris may also inhibit the breakdown of collagen and elastin. This extract also contains Butylene glycol which is an organic alcohol that softens, hydrates and moisturises. Vegan, Palm free.

Isoamyl laurate

A naturally-derived (from vegetable sources) lightweight oily ester, that softens and smooths the skin, leaving a light velvety-type finish. Vegan, Palm free.

Jasminum sambac/Jasmine sambac essential oil

Also known as Arabian Jasmine, and thought to have originated in the foothills of the Himalayas, Jasmine sambac has a sweeter and more sultry floral scent than the Jasmine grandiflora variety. We use a pure oil, solvent-extracted from the flowers, diluted in Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil. Vegan, Palm free.

Lauryl glucoside

A very mild surfactant which lifts away dirt and grease, with low risk of irritation. It is usually made from Coconut oil and/or Palm oil and sugar. Ours is made from only sustainable and renewable raw materials and it is easily biodegradable. Vegan.

Lavandula angustifolia/Lavender essential oil (organic)

Made by steam distillation of the flowers, Lavender has been traditionally used for centuries to support skin healing, as an antiseptic, to support sleep and in aromatherapy to calm and de-stress. Vegan, Palm free.

Lavandula angustifolia/Lavender water (spray free)

Also known as Lavender hydrosol or distillate, this is pure co-product of the oil steam distillation process. Containing some of the water-soluble elements from the raw plant material, Lavender water is cleansing, soothing and refreshing. Vegan, Palm free.

Leontopodium alpinum/Edelweiss cellular extract (organic)

This beautiful flower native to alpine regions in Europe has extraordinary antioxidant powers – shown to be twice as effective as Vitamin C at scavenging free radicals – and it has demonstrated skin benefits including wrinkle depth reduction and improved skin elasticity. This extract also contains water and Glycerine. Vegan, Palm free.

Lysolecithin

Formed by an enzymatic conversion of Lecithin (Lecithin is a mixture of fats needed by cells in the human body for normal function). Lysolecithin is an ingredient in a naturally-derived emulsifier approved by COSMOS for use in natural skincare and cosmetics. It also helps to deliver other active ingredients into the skin without affecting the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Vegan, Palm free.

Macadamia integrifolia/Macadamia oil (organic)

A pale-yellow oil expeller pressed from the nuts of the Madadamia tree. High in mono-unsaturated fatty acids, Palmitoleic acid, and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, it is intensely softening and replenishing for the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Malus domestica/Apple stem cell extract

A liposomal preparation based on the stem cells of a rare Swiss apple. Tests have shown it protects human stem cells, and improves skin signs of ageing, including reduction of wrinkle depth. This extract also contains Xanthan gum, Glycerin, Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol (a preservative) and purified water. Vegan, Palm-free.

Mangifera indica/Mango butter (organic)

A softly-solid off-white butter that melts on contact with the skin. Usually extracted by either expeller or cold pressing of the de-shelled Mango fruit seeds. It is an extremely moisturising, luxurious emollient that absorbs quickly without a greasy residue. Indigenous to southern Asia. Vegan, Palm free.

Marine collagen

Collagen is a protein which forms part of the connective tissue that supports the skin, and is associated with skin firmness, elasticity and suppleness. We use a type 1 collagen naturally derived from fish scales. Palm free.

Mentha piperata/Peppermint essential oil (organic)

Produced by steam distillation of the flowers and leaves of the plant, Peppermint is actually a natural hybrid of Watermint and Spearmint. Its fresh minty aroma uplifts the senses and has been used for centuries to treat many ailments, including skin irritation, anxiety and headache. Vegan, Palm free.

Nelumbo nucifera/Sacred Lotus essential oil

The beautiful pink Lotus is regarded as sacred in India, and across many religions it represents a symbol of divine beauty. The blooms open at sunrise, then submerge back into the water at dusk. The essential oil has a soft, uplifting, deeply floral aroma. The oil we use is diluted in pure Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) oil. Vegan, Palm free.

Nephelium lappaceum/Rambutan peel extract

Widely cultivated in southeast Asia, Hawaii and Australia, Rambutan is a relative of the Lychee. Its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin-protective and cellular stimulatory properties have it widely viewed as one of the best natural alternatives to retinol. Made by pressing the peel of the Rambutan fruit, this extract also contains Aqua, organic Glycerine, and the natural preservative Leucidal. Vegan, Palm free.

Niacinamide

Also known as Vitamin B3, Niacinamide supports a healthy skin lipid barrier, helps form healthy skin cells, can reduce redness and inflammation, and can help modulate sebum production. The Niacinamide we use is laboratory synthesised to ensure purity and quality. Vegan, Palm free.

Ocimum basilicum/Basil essential oil (organic)

A 100% pure oil obtained by steam distillation. It has a fresh, spicy and herbal scent. In aromatherapy it is used to uplift the mood, bring mental clarity and as an antidote to stress. Vegan, Palm-free.

Oenothera biennis/Evening primrose oil (organic)

Native to North America, Evening Primrose oil is made by cold pressing the seeds. It is high in Linoleic acid and also Gamma-linolenic acid – a rarer type of Omega 6 which the body cannot make itself. It is moisturising, skin soothing, and helps prevent trans-epidermal water loss. Vegan, Palm free.

Opuntia indica/Prickly pear oil (organic)

Also known as Barbary fig, this expensive oil is cold pressed from the seeds of this type of cactus. Thriving in semi-arid conditions, it is grown as a domesticated crop, bearing fruit with a flavour similar to watermelon. The oil is exceptionally high in Vitamin E, linoleic acid, antioxidants, minerals and amino acids, and as such is highly prized in skincare products. Vegan, Palm free.

Pelargonium graveolens/Geranium essential oil (organic)

Native to South Africa this species of Geranium has a stunning rose-like scent. The essential oil is made by the steam distillation of the leaves and flowers and is known as soothing and antimicrobial. In aromatherapy, it is often used to lift the spirits and alleviate anxiety. Vegan, Palm free.

Persea gratissima/Avocado oil (organic)

A cold-pressed, virgin, 100% pure oil which is intensely nourishing and rich in phytonutrients, including proteins, fatty acids, lecithin, and Vitamins A, D and E. Studies have shown it effective in stimulating collagen metabolism and helping irritated or inflamed skin to heal. Vegan, Palm free.

Piper nigrum/Black pepper essential oil (organic)

Warm, spicy and sharp, Black pepper oil is made through steam distillation of the dried pepper berries. Native to Malabar on the western coast of southern India. In aromatherapy is it used to promote a sense of positivity and alertness, and to help release muscle tension. Vegan, Palm free.

Polyglyceryl-4 oleate

A naturally derived emulsifier made from Sunflower seed oil. Generally used as a water-in-oil emulsifier, to enable small amounts of water-soluble ingredients to be incorporated into an oil-based formula, or to assist the washing off of oils, as it can attract and hold both oil and water molecules. Vegan, Palm free.

Polyglyceryl-6 oleate

Naturally derived from the ester of oleic acid combined with a polymer of Glycerine. It acts as a moisturiser, helping maintain the skin’s hydration levels; it has cleansing properties; and it forms a component of our natural solubiliser blend. Vegan, Palm free.

Potassium sorbate

A preservative booster approved for use by COSMOS and EcoCert for use in natural and organic skincare. Effective against moulds and yeasts, it is most commonly used as an adjunct to other preservatives which are effective against bacteria, to provide broad-spectrum cover. Vegan, Palm free.

Propanediol

Naturally derived from fermentation of corn sugar, Propanediol is a very pure glycol, which moisturises, attracts water to the skin, and helps dissolve other active ingredients in a formula. Vegan, Palm free. 

Prunus domestica/Plum kernel oil (organic)

This lightly golden oil is cold pressed from the kernels inside the stones of plum fruits. The oil is high in natural Vitamin E and it contains a high ratio of monounsaturated fats relative to saturated fats. It is light, fast absorbing, a good cleansing oil and leaves a satiny finish on the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Pseudoalteromonas Antarctica ferment

A strain of bacteria from the Antarctic which produces an exopolymer of glycoproteins to help it retain water and protect itself from harsh environmental conditions. Formulated as a bioferment, it is used in skincare to promote skin regeneration and to boost collagen levels. This extract also contains Aqua, Sodium hydroxide and Salicylic acid to preserve and stabilise the mix. Approved for use in organic formulations. Vegan (bacterial origin), Palm free.

Pullulan

A natural, water-soluble polysaccharide made from starch using fermentation. It has excellent binding properties and as such it is an ingredient in our naturally-derived emulsifier approved by COSMOS for use in natural skincare and cosmetics. Vegan, Palm free.

Resveratrol

A polyphenol which was first discovered in the skin of red grapes, but is also found in other plants. It is absorbed easily by the skin and has been shown to lift collagen production and reduce damage caused by oxidative stress and UV radiation. The form we use is extracted from the Japanese knotweed plant (Polygonum cuspidatum), and also contains vegetable Glycerine and Water. Vegan, Palm free.

Resveratrol

A polyphenol which was first discovered in the skin of red grapes, but is also found in other plants. It is absorbed easily by the skin and has been shown to lift collagen production and reduce damage caused by oxidative stress and UV radiation. The form we use is extracted from the Japanese knotweed plant (Polygonum cuspidatum), and also contains vegetable Glycerine and Water. Vegan, Palm free.

Rosa canina/Rosehip cellular extract

This extract comprises the water-soluble phytochemicals from the hips of this wild (‘Dog rose’) species. Rosehips have long been used in skincare for their high Vitamin C, polyphenols and other antioxidant content which supports skin elasticity and reduces signs of skin ageing. This extract also contains Glycerine, Water, Citric acid, and Sodium benzoate and Potassium sorbate to prevent microbial spoilage. Vegan, Palm free.

Rosa canina/Rosehip oil (organic) 

Cold pressed from the seeds inside the hip of this wild (‘Dog rose’) species, Rosehip oil is extremely high in essential fatty acids which the body uses in regenerating skin tissue. It is a ‘dry’ oil, meaning it absorbs very quickly without leaving a greasy residue. Vegan, Palm free.

Rosa damascena/Rose water (organic)

Also known as Rose hydrosol, this water is produced by steam distillation of the blooms of the highly scented Damask rose. It contains the water-soluble phytochemicals of the flowers and is used to calm and soothe the skin. Vegan, Palm free.

Salix alba/White willow bark extract

A natural source of salicin (a precursor of salicylic acid), White willow bark has been used medicinally for at least the past 3500 years. It is a gentle exfoliant and anti-inflammatory to help combat redness and irritation. It is also rich in tannins which make it astringent and effective at removing excess oils. This extract also contains Water, Alcohol, Xanthan gum, Citric acid and Potassium. Vegan, Palm free.

Salvia sclarea/Clary sage essential oil (organic)

Made by steam distillation of the flowers and leaves, Clary sage is known as being particularly effective in protecting the skin from DNA and protein damage caused by free radicals. In aromatherapy it is used to reduce anxiety and to promote both relaxation and mental clarity. Vegan, Palm free.

Sclerotium gum

A natural plant-derived gum produced by the fermentation of Sclerotium rolfsii. It forms a gel which not only helps thicken and stabilise a formula, but also has soothing and skin smoothing properties. It is an ingredient in our naturally-derived emulsifier approved by COSMOS for use in natural skincare and cosmetics. Vegan, Palm free.

Silk protein/amino acids

Hydrolysed from pure silk cocoon fibres produced by the silkworm Bombyx mori. These amino acids have water-binding properties, so are used to help protect the skin’s natural barrier, and to carry other active ingredients into the skin. Palm free.

Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) beads 

Free-flowing microbeads made of a fully biodegradable Jojoba ester. The spheres are smooth and round, meaning they can very gently exfoliate dead skin cells without causing microscopic tears on the skin’s surface. Vegan, Palm free.

Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) oil (organic)

A golden liquid wax ester, cold pressed from the kernels of the Jojoba nut, containing a variety of Omega 9 fatty acids and skin softening Palmitic acid. Jojoba is very like the natural sebum produced by the skin, so it is an excellent moisturiser, it helps loosen and remove the oil in clogged pores, and is also known as a sebum modulator. Vegan, Palm free.

Sodium cocoyl glutamate

A mild, vegetable-based salt/surfactant derived from Coconut oil and glucose from Corn (it may also be derived from Potato, Wheat and/or Palm fruit). Often used to enhance the cleansing and foaming properties of a product, it has a low allergy profile so can usually be used by people with skin sensitivities. It forms a component of our natural solubiliser blend. Vegan.

Sodium hyaluronate 

The salt form of Hyaluronic acid, Sodium hyaluronate has a smaller molecule size, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin. It is also more stable and less prone to oxidation, meaning it stays effective for longer. Naturally derived from fermentation of glucose, it is used to hydrate the skin, plump out fine lines and wrinkles, and increase suppleness. Vegan, Palm free.

Sodium lactate

A liquid salt naturally derived from corn starch fermentation. It is a natural humectant, so it attracts water to the skin, helping to keep it hydrated. Vegan, Palm free.

Sodium phytate

A natural chelating agent extracted from Rice bran, used as a natural alternative to EDTA in skincare and cosmetics. It helps stabilise a formula by preventing undesirable chemical reactions involving metals. Vegan, Palm free.

Sodium surfactin

A naturally derived surfactant made of amino acids and fatty acids, produced by the fermentation of Bacillis subtilis. It works as a cleanser and an emulsifier to help incorporate oils into water-based formulae. It forms a component of our natural solubiliser blend. Vegan, Palm free.

Sorbitan olivate

A biodegradable ester made from Sorbitol and the fatty acids in Olive oil. Used in conjunction with Cetearyl olivate (also from Olive) it forms liquid crystal structures that are similar to the lipid structures in the skin, meaning it also moisturises, soothes and supports the skin barrier. Vegan, RSPO certified sustainable Palm.

Squalane

The hydrogenated form of Squalene, an unsaturated oil naturally produced by our skin to keep it moisturised. Squalene is also found in a variety of plants, including Olives, which is what our Squalane is derived from. Squalane is more stable and less prone to oxidation than Squalene, it is fast absorbing and has excellent moisturising properties without clogging pores. Vegan, Palm free.

Tocopherols

Otherwise known as Vitamin E, Tocopherols are antioxidant fat-soluble vitamins found both in the body and in many plant oils. Some tocopherols offer antioxidant protection to the skin, while others help to preserve a product by slowing down the oxidation of oils contained within the product. We use a combination of both. Vegan, Palm free.

Ubidecarenone

Also known as Coenzyme Q10, this bright orange vitamin-like substance is naturally found in every human cell, where it is involved with energy production and cell protection. Widely used in skincare and cosmetics for its antioxidant activity which helps protect the skin from UV and other environmental stressor damage. It is also thought to support healthy collagen production and have anti-inflammatory properties. Vegan, Palm free.

Vanilla planifolia/Vanilla CO2 extracted oil

Originating from Mexico, Colombia, Central America and Brazil, Vanilla is a member of the orchid family. It is now grown in tropical areas worldwide, with Madagascar, Mexico, Tahiti and Indonesia being the largest producers. Obtained by CO2 critical extraction of the flowers of the Vanilla plant, the rich, sweet, warm aroma of this extraction provides a deeply relaxing base note to scent profiles. Vegan, Palm free.

Vitis vinifera/Grapeseed oil (organic)

A pale green oil produced by the cold pressing of Grape seeds, as a byproduct of the wine industry. It is quickly absorbed by the skin, is high in omega 6 fatty acids and vitamin E, and is used to enhance skin softness, moisture levels, and regenerative ability. Vegan, Palm free.

Xanthan gum

A natural emulsifier and stabiliser derived from Corn sugar fermented by Xanthomonas campestris. It is used to thicken and stabilise gels and emulsions. Vegan, Palm free.
